Please describe your blog
It started out primarily as a writing blog, but I've also been posting pictures and articles from my wildlife job. Right now, I'd say it's split about 50/50 between writing and nature photos, but the nature photos get more response.
What blogging platform do you do and why?
I use a Wordpress installation that I've integrated with a static HTML homepage and a Gallery2 photo gallery. I like being able to combine all three into one mostly-seamless site, and being able to use a theme I created myself for all three. And I honestly enjoy tinkering with CSS. A week never goes by without some minor layout tweaks on my site.
What do you blog the most about?
Writing and wildlife. There are some "daily life" posts on my blog, too, but I'm trying to keep as many relevant to writing as possible.
What are some things you would NEVER blog about?
If you ever see a post about how great the Bush administration is, it's safe to assume someone's hacked my blog. Or maybe I'm suffering from sunstroke.
Did you start blogging for the purpose of making money and if so, are you making enough money?
Well, someday when I've sold a novel I'm sure I'll use my blog to promote it. But otherwise, no.
How long have you been blogging?
Total? Five years. This blog? Five months.
About how many hours per day do you spend blogging?
Only fifteen minutes or so if you average it out. Longer on weekends, but some weekdays I don't even get online.
Do you track RSS feeds and if so, how many do you usually track daily?
Yes. About 10.
Do you use Digg, and why or why not?
No.
Do you use Stumbleupon, and why or why not?
Yes. I like that it shows me new sites I probably wouldn't have found on my own.
What promotional techniques work best for you and why?
Comments in other peoples' blogs. Those tend to attract people who actually want to read my blog and stick around.
What mistakes have you made that you could warn others about?
Don't get a bunch of traffic coming to your blog and then suddenly decide to go on vacation and not post anything. Your traffic will all be gone when you come back.
Have you met anyone offline as a result of your blog?
Not this one, but previous blogs, yes.
