The Wisconsin Candy Dish Interview

What is the name of your Blog?

The Wisconsin Candy Dish

What is your name?

Jeanna

Where are you from? (include country, state and/or city)

United States, Wisconsin

What is your current age or age range?

Early fifties

What are you blogging about?

I'm using candy as an excuse to write about anything that strikes me as amusing.

Describe the main purpose of your blogging, what are you trying to accomplish?

I'm trying to entertain and inform while making myself write more often.

What blogging platform do you do and why?

Blogger because it's user friendly, the first one I used, and I'm too lazy to change.

What do you blog the most about?

Candy.

What kind of blogs make you angry?

Ones that are self-indulgent and poorly written. "Angry" is a little strong. Ones take someone else's images or videos with little attempt at using their own or finding a more creative way to express themselves.

Give five of your best blogging tips.

Even long entries can be consise. Write about what you know or what you really like and want to know more about. Use graphics and photos often, but not to excess. Keep your blog updated, but resist the urge to publish daily. The best blog online might not be worth a long load time.

What are some things you would NEVER blog about?

As long as I think it's funny or serves a purpose, I'm not sure there's a limit. Crossing lines is something else.

Did you start blogging for the purpose of making money and if so, are you making enough money?

No, I started blogging as a class assignment and the class assigned me the topic out of a handful of topics I was interested in.

How long have you been blogging?

Since the fall of 2006.

About how many hours per day do you spend blogging?

It varies. It might take a few hours to photograph and image, then another few hours to write, re-write, and post (and re-write again). I try to post a few times a week.

Do you track RSS feeds and if so, how many do you usually track daily?

No.

Do you use Digg, and why or why not?

No, I don't know enough about it.

Do you use Stumbleupon, and why or why not?

No, same reason.

What promotional techniques work best for you and why?

I don't use any, but probably should. I've joined a few blogging communities, but don't think they drew traffic.

If you could post a blog on any blog in the world, which one would it be and why?

Some imaginary comedic dream team round table. As long as we're dreaming...Pyror, Tomlin, Lenny Bruce, Mel Brooks, Jennifer Saunders, Elaine Boosler, Fran Leibowitz, Larry David, Carson, Mark Twain, and the list goes on.

What mistakes have you made that you could warn others about?

Don't listen to your teacher and re-size your images to make them small the way she likes them.

What are your top five blogging site picks and why?

Candyblog-Cybele may be the best and most comprehensive confectionery writer around. Her photos and covereage are outstanding, and she's very aware of other bloggers. Cakespy-Jessie is another incredibly knowlegable blogger. The blog looks wonderful and adds a personal and warm touch, like good pastry. Cake Wrecks-I just started following it and some of the cakes and photos are priceless. Ms. Mamma-Great photos, local, interesting, good writer, funny and sometimes poignant. Unhinged-Funny, friendly, and personally relatable. Part of a writer's blogging community I'm getting to know. Answers comments and continues the conversation on mine and another favorite blog.

Have you met anyone offline as a result of your blog?

No, but would have if the event organizer hadn't crapped out.

What is the url of your blog?

The Wisconsin Candy Dish
