A blog for fashion students and lovers
A blog for young people sick of fashion blogs dedicated to expensive designer and celebrity style, a place for people on a budget to discuss and be inspired by other people like them and their style secrets. A blog about fashion in all aspects of life, from the outlook of two teenagers who love to dress up and wear the weirdest clothes available.
Describe the main purpose of your blogging, what are you trying to accomplish?
To give people a space to talk about their own style and how they achieve it, away from the rich adults who fill their websites and magazines with thousand pound couture dresses that no ordinary human could hope to afford. A space for budding fashion journalists and designers to show their work to their peers and get feedback from like minded souls.
What do you blog the most about?
We mostly blog about the issues that we as students face when trying to maintain our own individual looks. It's irritating when you are trying to achieve a great look but you can only afford generic high street pieces. We are political and informed and we blog about issues that mean things to us like ethical fashion, sweatshops and the problems of a consumerist society.
What kind of blogs make you angry?
Fashion blogs which yack on about the latest designer handbag and then a week later have moved on to the latest 'trend'. This trend driven fashion is what is wrong with the industry and has a negative impact on people all around the world who are suffering so we can wear cheap clothes. I hate people who have no world knowledge or interest. Everythings is connected and should be put into context. If your dress costs less than your coffee what does that tell you about the conditions in which it is made?
Give five of your best blogging tips.
Be honest, don't make stuff up because you'll sound fake and pretentious. Remember your audience. I write for students not professionals, so i make sure what i write is relevant to them. Don't be too serious. I write in a conversational tone to engage people so they don't get bored by lingo for fancy words. Get others involved. We encourage people to submit their own blogs, it makes people feel part of the blog. Update, constantly. People will easily get bored and move on if there's nothing new.
What are some things you would NEVER blog about?
Things i don't know about, because i'd like to be informed when i express my opinion. Fashion education, such as university courses. I'll leave that to my friend as she actually studies it.
Did you start blogging for the purpose of making money and if so, are you making enough money?
No i didn't. I blog for the purpose of venting my own frustration and meeting like minded people.
How long have you been blogging?
I've been blogging for years but this particular site has been open a matter of weeks.
About how many hours per day do you spend blogging?
About 2 or 3.
What promotional techniques work best for you and why?
Word of mouth. We are not a money making or professionaly orientated websites, so spending money on advertising won't work. We just ask people to tell their friends and use social networking sites because thats where are target audience go.
If you could post a blog on any blog in the world, which one would it be and why?
The sartorialist because his is the own fashion blog i really admire. I'd post a blog with images of street fashion from where i live in Birmingham, because the smaller cities are always left out.
