Please describe your blog
Thoughts for My God-box is how I hope to share my adventures in becoming the person I've always wanted to be, the successes (and learning experiences) I encounter along the way, How and what I discover along the way, my thoughts about the books I read and things I encounter that make me think and give me the opportunity to understand the world and my place in it.
Describe the main goal of your blogging, what are you trying to accomplish?
My main goal in blogging is to inspire other people to become the person that they have always dreamed of being as well. I believe that everyone has the option of changing their lives, overcoming their perceived limitations, creating happiness, and being successful (whatever that means to you). There is no 'right' way to do these things, so I hope to share my way of becoming my dream me and hope that the work and progress I make will resonate with other people and inspire them to find their own path to happiness.
What do you blog the most about?
I blog the most about the thoughts, processes, and steps I am taking to transform my life.
What kind of blogs frustrate you?
Disingenuous blogs that exist only to sell a product or attempt to generate income without adding value to the world or people who happen upon them; I especially dislike blogs that try to take advantage of human unhappiness and sell false remedies and solutions.
Give five of your best blogging tips.
1. Be Authentic-- Your best writing will be honestly you and convey your unique life experiences and thoughts. 2. Write well-- Reading a blog that is poorly written (grammatical errors, lack of focus, no central idea in postings) is frustrating and unhelpful to readers and to you. 3. Be honest-- unless your blog is a creative writing exercise, it is best to be honest about yourself to your readers. They read your blog because they are interested in YOUR life and experiences and your writing will always be better when honestly written. 4. Write as you speak-- having a 'voice' that is uniquely yours, and gives your readers another way to feel like they 'know' you is a great way to get people interested in your writing and your life. 5. Personally respond to comments and questions-- your blog gives you a great way to connect with, and get to know, amazing people from around the world. Making sure to respond personally to every question and comment will help build loyalty among your readers and also encourage readers to respond to and share your blog.
Have you met anyone offline as a result of a blog?
Actually, I met my partner through a blog I used to have on a great free dating site (okcupid). I wrote a post about an art project idea that I had but wondered if it was possible to make it physically work. He is a computer engineer who, unbeknownst to me, read my blog and emailed me about collaborating in order to make it work. We still have the project on the back burner (it's a large project that will need funding and space) but have successfully collaborated in the creation of a beautiful daughter and a loving and adventure-filled life.
What is the most important quality in a motivational/inspirational blogger?
Compassion. With compassion for yourself, your family and friends, and for other human beings, you have the foundation of being able to grow and show, through example, the beauty of life and the endless possibilities we contain. It gives you the patience to overlook and/or understand human frailties, the desire to discover the amazing beauty of people and the world, and the serenity to accept that everyone has their own path and inner world to be respected.
