Please describe your blog
The blog is all about the great French jeweler, glassmaker, and industrialist Rene Lalique and his works, which are commonly referred to as R Lalique. We cover everything happening around the world from auctions of R Lalique jewelry, glass, and unique items, to exhibitions, fakes that appear, and even when a great piece of R Lalique appears on something like the Antiques Roadshow. We also have articles of general interest to R Lalique collectors such as articles about auctions and how they work, sales reports from all R Lalique auctions, biographical and historical information about Rene Lalique, and general observations about the market for all of the various categories of collecting the works of Rene Lalique.
Describe the main purpose of your blogging, what are you trying to accomplish?
The main purpose of our blog is to provide transparent and up to date information about the entire field of collecting the works of Rene Lalique so that collectors worldwide will have access to everything that is happening around the world that is R Lalique related. For example, if a rare vase appears in Istanbul at a small auction, we report on it so that collectors that otherwise wouldn't know about it, can find out. We also provide a lot of educational information for collectors along with the current news. Another example would be a great painting that appeared in London at auction that was given to Lalique by a friend and famous artist with an inscription "To My Friend, Lalique". Not a piece of R Lalique, but definitely related, so we bring it to the attention of our readers.
What blogging platform do you do and why?
We use WordPress because it was supplied by our hosting company and we didn't know what we were doing when we started.
What do you blog the most about?
New about upcoming auctions of R Lalique items are the most blogged about, along with results of sales of individual items or entire auctions.
What kind of blogs make you angry?
I don't read other blogs, I'm am way to busy keeping this one up to date:)
Give five of your best blogging tips.
1. Don't get started blogging and you'll have a lot more free time. 2. If you insist on starting a blog, don't start hacking the code directly of the blog software if you have no clue what you are doing, since you can never update your blog software without destroying your blog! 3, 4, and 5, Re-read 1. and 2.
What are some things you would NEVER blog about?
If it's not about or related to Rene Lalique and collecting his R Lalique works, we don't blog about it.
Did you start blogging for the purpose of making money and if so, are you making enough money?
No, No, and NO (the third NO is in answer to the follow up question of whether you will EVER make money at blogging)!!
How long have you been blogging?
4 months, but it seems a lot longer .......... and I've been married near 30 years and it also seems a lot longer.....
About how many hours per day do you spend blogging?
15 minutes average, some days no time, others an hour.
Do you track RSS feeds and if so, how many do you usually track daily?
I disabled all the feeds and don't track any. Don't know why I did that, but at the time there was a good reason.
Do you use Digg, and why or why not?
No - never heard of Digg.
Do you use Stumbleupon, and why or why not?
See Digg answer.
What promotional techniques work best for you and why?
We have done very little promoting of any kind. Collectors of R Lalique and people interested in the entire art deco and art nouveau art fields are slowly but surely finding us. I'd say have the relevant content that your target audience wants to know about or discuss and that is the best promotion. Build the field and they will come!
If you could post a blog on any blog in the world, which one would it be and why?
The only blog I ever posted on is our own. But, if I could get a great blog entry posted elsewhere, it would be on the blog for the Total Blog Directory. I let you know how it goes in a few days.
What mistakes have you made that you could warn others about?
Don't start a blog. And if you are going to ignore that number one rule, try to figure out what you are doing BEFORE you start instead of learning as you go (guess who did that)!
What are your top five blogging site picks and why?
After our own blog? Hmmm, there are other blogs out there?
Have you met anyone offline as a result of your blog?
I don't get out much, haven't even met most of the neighbors.
If you had to do it all over again, would you?
All joking aside, of course. Having a great time! I made up all that bad stuff in answer to the other questions.
