Ordinary Recipes Made Gourmet Interview

, Food: A happy girl is a girl who can cook good food!

What is the name of your Blog?

Ordinary Recipes Made Gourmet

What is your name?

Kim

Where are you from? (include country, state and/or city)

United States

A tribute to my mom which showcases everyday, ordinary recipes don't have to make bland dishes, you don't have to sacrifice taste to eat good and inexpensively.

Describe the main purpose of your blogging, what are you trying to accomplish?

To teach others how to cook healthier, present fabulous looking dishes without sacrificing taste and to make the culinary experience a good one for non-cookers.

What blogging platform do you do and why?

I created my own blog from scratch because of my design and web experience. I thought about Wordpress and Blogger, but I wanted total control over the look, the graphic placements, how I handle my comments sections and what not. Guess it's the artist in me!

What do you blog the most about?

Recipes that I like and the type of food I write caters to vegetarians, meat lovers alike.

What kind of blogs make you angry?

Blogs that downgrade other people or cause racial division, sells sex, and degrades other people. These sites cause bitterness, hate and this country needs anything but more problems added onto the economical struggles we're having.

Give five of your best blogging tips.

1. Blog about what you like. 2. Blog about something you know about. Makes it easy to have new content. 3. Build good content and don't fill it up with ads. 4. Get to know your readers, use social networking sites like twitter, facebook, building rapport makes your blog credible not to mention drives more traffic to your site. 5. Blog often. Nothing's worse to a reader than to come to a blog site that hasn't been updated in over a month!

What are some things you would NEVER blog about?

I don't like blogging about my take on politics because everyone has an opinion and I'm trying to bring out the fun in cooking, not start a war!

Did you start blogging for the purpose of making money and if so, are you making enough money?

No, I love cooking! Simple as that. My secondary purpose is hopefully one day to blog full-time and make a living at it. But my main purpose has always been to share my love of cooking and bring other foodies together. I love blogging, it makes me want to cook more and think of other exciting things to share about!

How long have you been blogging?

For quite awhile, but seriously just a few months.

About how many hours per day do you spend blogging?

I would say per week because I work full-time so I can't blog everyday so in a week's time, I'd say I put up a good 8 to 10 hours. One day I will do this everyday!

Do you track RSS feeds and if so, how many do you usually track daily?

Yes, I track about 6.

Do you use Digg, and why or why not?

No, I'm getting to it, there are so many social networking sites and too many is hard for me to keep track of all of them, but I'll get to it!

Do you use Stumbleupon, and why or why not?

I just joined, learning about it now.

What promotional techniques work best for you and why?

Twitter I think because people are constantly online telling everyone what they're doing and since you can share links, it's a great way for me to let my followers quickly know that I've added a new recipe.

What mistakes have you made that you could warn others about?

Don't build your blog too soon. Write out on paper why you want to blog, what you'll blog about and where your content's coming from BEFORE you do any designing. Also, build your template first. Don't start making new pages until you're absolutely sure you like your template. I made that mistake and the work was twice as much because I had built more pages from a template I wasn't sure I liked that I created. Now, I know better! :)

Have you met anyone offline as a result of your blog?

I email a few people and skype too.

What is the url of your blog?
