What is the name of your Blog?Meet Halima - Bloggin' Bits of Life, Design, Music & More.
What is your name?
Halima
Where are you from? (include country, state and/or city)
You know that question remains a mystery. hehe.
Please describe your blog
It's a personal journal where I talk about quite a bit of things like love, relationships, entertainment, design, life, dreams and internet stuff. When people visit my blog then can expect a variety.
Describe the main purpose of your blogging, what are you trying to accomplish?
As said above it is basically like a personal journal/log. It started out with me just wanting to have something better than a MySpace profile. MySpace blogs didn't seem like the right fit for me since MySpace is more about getting in touch with friends than about blogging; it's kind of like a type of "club" scene to me. And you won't see me in any club. So I was out of there. It then turned into a way for family and friends to see what I'm up to sort of for those that don't "MySpace". This allows them to contact me without having to sign up for some membership; a lot of people don't like having to go through a sign up process -- I know I personally don't. So my own blog gave me that freedom to accomplish that. It provides an easier way for old friends to contact me to reunite with me instead of having to fill out all of these membership profiles (e.g. Classmates, MySpace and similar) just to say, "Hey, there you are," exchanging emails and phone numbers thereafter. Don't get me wrong I've created a MySpace profile for the sole purpose that if some old friend go looking for me there they can find me. But I've put on my headline where to contact me so they won't have to go through a registration process just to contact me. Then, of course, for my blog I wanted my thoughts out. I used to write poetry growing up and thought to do it again and have an audience of equal interest. Along with that I wanted to share my views on things and I do have thoughts throughout the day and just feel like putting them out there for a good read or maybe in it somewhere it can be useful for someone being able to relate to something I've typed. It's also kind of therapeutic for me; a sense of release of my person. And that's really the main things I wanted to accomplish with it, which I have. So I'm pleased.
What blogging platform do you do and why?
I blog using Wordpress that I installed on my web host. I didn't go the free blog way. I take that back, I tested out Blogger.com but it's so limited to what I can do with the design and layout that I just had to get my own host. A heck of a lot more freedom to what you can do. So I bought a web hosting account, my domain name and then set up my blog using Fantastico in Cpanel after searching for the perfect WP theme for me. Wordpress had a better selection of themes out on the web that others created and freely distributed than any other platform. WordPress and themes had that personal blogging feel I was after. So was the perfect choice to and for me.
What do you blog the most about?
You know I don't know. Maybe love and relationships. I'd have to get back to you on that one. hehe.
What kind of blogs make you angry?
Hmm, well I haven't come across any blog that stirs me up. But off the top of my head I'd probably have to go with any blog that makes comments about something ignoring the details; people commenting that don't listen/read. Any blog about any subject that speaks out of ignorance. I'm the kind of person where my anger is short-lived in any given moment. I don't usually anger easily. But what I mentioned is a pet peeve of mine, that I'd rather avoid as much as possible. ;)
Give five of your best blogging tips.
Well, what do you mean best blogging tips?! Tips? Uh, be yourself and just post away. There are no rules, so don't know what this whole tips thing is about. When blogging it's really just your own world and letting other people in to experience it and see how your world is. I mean unless a person is attempting to blog for the sole purpose of money then there are no "tips" to give. ;) Oh wait, I haven't come across this issue with bloggers but if it exists I'd advice that whatever theme you go with that you make sure your text is visible and keep multiple media from playing all at the same time upon page load (e.g. Youtube videos or similar, music players, slide shows and whatever else); lags the load time. But like I said, I haven't seen such a thing on blogs I've visited. So. :)
What are some things you would NEVER blog about?
Hmmm, I am not entirely sure on that one. Oh, other people's business. What I mean is, I've lived with quite a few families in my years. So their family life and how they operate as a family, I won't share that on my blog. On the other hand, if any information is directly connected to me then I will because then it's part of MY life. And my life I'll share.
Did you start blogging for the purpose of making money and if so, are you making enough money?
I didn't start blogging for the purpose of making money. However, I have gone ahead and added some adsense on my site, which I am making some money with. I had considered blogging for money like PayPerPost type sites but just doesn't seem like the way to go at least not now.
How long have you been blogging?
I've been blogging for just a few months now.
About how many hours per day do you spend blogging?
Uhh... well under an hour. I guess if I were a slow at typing that it would take me several hours. haha.
Do you track RSS feeds and if so, how many do you usually track daily?
You know I've just now learned what RSS feeds are. haha. I still don't quite understand how to use them. LOL. It's probably a no-brainer too huh? I know how to add them to a webpage though. That's about it. Terrible "ain't" it.
Do you use Digg, and why or why not?
Digg is still confusing to me and like RSS feeds is probably real simple to figure out, too. I joined but haven't been back since. I think it was Digg that I joined.
Do you use Stumbleupon, and why or why not?
Nope. If I get a better understanding of these what I've learned are social bookmarking sites then I suppose I might. I hear they are good to promote one's own website. However just seems odd to bookmark my own site. Would think it would be better if someone else did that, you know what I mean?!
What promotional techniques work best for you and why?
I frequent some forums online and have added my rss feed to them. So a large part of my traffic comes from those.
If you could post a blog on any blog in the world, which one would it be and why?
Uh... beats the heck out of me.
What mistakes have you made that you could warn others about?
In every so-called "mistake" there is a life's lesson to be learned that hadn't been grasped, yet. So in essence there aren't really any mistakes. There are choices and even though I haven't always been completely happy with the RESULTS of the choices I've made; I still wouldn't call those mistakes. So if your question was something along the lines of which choice in my life that I made produced results that were less pleasing to me than others that I'd like to share, well THEN I can share some insight. I mean after all there are pros and cons of every choice made. Based on what they are determines what choice will be made. And if a person says well I made a mistake and chose the wrong path well that would be inaccurate because there was apparently something in that choice that person needed to see, know or be aware of that they may not have been had they chose the other option. So mistakes? As a relative of mine says, "Whatever do you mean?" ;)
What are your top five blogging site picks and why?
I haven't any just, yet.
Have you met anyone offline as a result of your blog?
No. Why would that happen?
