Hire Guru - The UK Hire Guide

What is your name?

Matt

Where are you from? (include country, state and/or city)

London, England

What is your current age or age range?

32

Please describe your blog

HireGuru is a blog about hiring stuff in the UK. It keeps track of new hire services that are launching, how to run a successful hire company, guides to hiring things, and so on.

Describe the main purpose of your blogging, what are you trying to accomplish?

The idea of the blog is to provide useful information for people looking to hire things and small business owners trying to promote their hire services. We also try to make it entertaining and include light-hearted articles when we can. For example, we're working on one that looks at some ridiculously expensive things that you can hire.

What blogging platform do you do and why?

We use Wordpress. It's pretty much the industry leader as far as I know. It's easy to set up and there are loads of great plugins to get it to do all the typical things bloggers find useful.

What do you blog the most about?

The unusual things that you can hire in the UK. For example, I recently wrote a post about hiring pets!

What kind of blogs make you angry?

Spam blogs!

Give five of your best blogging tips.

It's okay to write short posts. Be committed. Stick with it. Install an automated spam filter. Keep a file of ideas for future blog posts. Read other people's blogs.

What are some things you would NEVER blog about?

I'd try to steer clear of politics and religion.

Did you start blogging for the purpose of making money and if so, are you making enough money?

No, not really. I don't make any money directly from the blog.

How long have you been blogging?

About a year now.

About how many hours per day do you spend blogging?

An hour or so on average.

Do you track RSS feeds and if so, how many do you usually track daily?

Yes, about 30.

Do you use Digg, and why or why not?

Now and again. It's interesting to see what subjects make it to the top and why.

Do you use Stumbleupon, and why or why not?

Yes, mostly when I'm bored!

What promotional techniques work best for you and why?

Writing high-quality content.

If you could post a blog on any blog in the world, which one would it be and why?

Technorati because so many people follow it.

What mistakes have you made that you could warn others about?

Don't start a blog unless you can think of plenty of things to write about.

What are your top five blogging site picks and why?

Pass.

Have you met anyone offline as a result of your blog?

Not yet.

What's your favorite place in the world?

The top of a small hill right next to Machu Pichu in Peru. There's an awe-inspiring view there, like nothing I've ever experienced elsewhere.
