Please describe your blog
I started my blog as an additional place to show photos of my jewelry from my online shop, but it is continuing to grow into something much more than that. I have only been blogging for about a month and I already have visitors from around the world. Naturally, I blog about my jewelry, what I am currently doing or about to do, new techniques I am working on mastering, i.e. currently working on hammering metals for designed pieces. I also blog about other shops, other blogs, small businesses, etc., along with family and what we're up to - that allows potential customers to see me as a person and not just another shop owner.
What do you blog the most about?
I blog the most about my jewelry designs and my family. This allows viewers to occasionally see what I am up to before items get posted to the shop. Blogging about family provides that connection with complete strangers and in following their blogs as well, then we have a connection and share ideas and thoughts.
What kind of blogs make you irritated?
I don't do reading/viewing inappropriate blogs, i.e. blogs that aren't G-rated and family appropriate.
Give five of your best blogging tips.
1. Blog regularly as people look forward to your blogs like they would a columnist in the newspaper. You are becoming their new favorite columnist in many ways. 2. Let people get to know you a bit, you don't have to give your mother's maiden name and your father's birthdate, but you can share your life and make someone else's life better. 3. Post good pictures. A picture truly is worth a 1,000 words+. 4. Follow other people's blogs and comment on them - this creates an ongoing postive interaction. 5. Be nice. The best way to get customers may be to have a good product, but the best way to keep customers is to be the sort of person that they can relate to and like. Leave comments of thank you when someone comments positively about your latest posting. Thank people for entering your giveaways, even when they don't win. Invite the folks who didn't win back to enter the next drawing.
What are some things you would NEVER blog about?
You won't find something that isn't family-friendly and G-rated on my blog. Comments that are left by visitors are moderated by me before they are posted to the blog.
Did you start blogging for the purpose of making money and if so, are you making enough money?
I did start blogging as a marketing angle and I must say that 9 of 10 of my first 10 sales are directly related to marketing, which includes my blog. At the moment I am still getting my business up and going, so no, not making enough money yet, but we all have to start from scratch and build our dreams into something with hard work and determination.
How long have you been blogging?
I've been blogging about 4 - 6 weeks. I love it and enjoy it and look forward to seeing what countries have been represented the latest on my visitor count. I enjoy reading comments left on my blog and I enjoy leaving comments on other interesting blogs.
Do you use Stumbleupon, and why or why not?
I signed up for Stumbleupon, but have not gotten back on it as it was not very user-friendly. I'll go back to checking it out once I have other online services that are more user-friendly up and running.
